About the Chapter

President's Message from Christian Miller

Greetings,

A Happy New Year to all of our members and guests.  In writing this message I wanted to acknowledge the fine efforts of my predecessors over the last decade. These distinguished folks:

Christopher Mee, CFM  2000 - 2002
Gary Fescine  2002 - 2005
Brian Ostrowe, CFM  2005 – 2007 and
Carole Green  2007 - 2009

2009 was a challenging year for our chapter but in spite of all we faced as an association we ended the year with:

565 Members
$20,000.00 ahead of budget
$68,000 in Sponsorships
12 Facility Management Professional and 1 Lifetime Certified Facility Manager Certifications

I would like to think Carole Green for her efforts as our Chapter President for the last two years. I don’t think anyone comprehends the commitment or challenges of this volunteer role until you step into the shoes of those who have gone before you. And being located here in New York City we create only the best for our members, supporting them the best we are able.  Carole performed her role as president with grace and compassion reaching out to help and assist members as well as addressing the changes that needed to be made in order to accomplish her goals. Our efforts in creating an Emerging Leaders Group is all due to Carole’s insight.

Look for our introductory event this coming spring.

I would also like to thank Harry Cannon, former chair of our Program Committee for his tireless efforts in making this committee one of the hardest working and most successful in our chapter. Harry and his team’s diligence in presenting relevant topics and education sessions that address the knowledge needs of our members has been outstanding. But nothing has been better than the hidden educational game show competitions, like Facility Feud and Facility Squares. I look forward to Harry’s protégés Abbie Golding and Gail Frank continuing to provide us with relevant and interesting monthly Tool Box Lunches, Programs and Networking sessions. Please feel free to let Gail (or Abbie) know of any topic they should look into presenting.  And my special thanks to all of the following former Committee Chairs who completed their terms during 2009.  I salute:

Gabriela de Oliveira, Communications

Cece Haas,CFM  Member Services

Julie May, Sponsorship and

Robert Cottrell, Professional Outreach

2010 is beginning to look brighter for the chapter. Our 27th Annual Awards of Excellence Celebration was a tremendous success. I congratulate Mindy Williams and her Awards Committee as well as The Dinner Committee for all of their efforts. Please see the listings and pictures on our website.

Check out the listing of Programs and Events already set up for the year, I’m very proud of our Committee’s work.  I look forward to seeing our members come out, network, connect and be successful in our professional roles.

Over the next few months our Professional Outreach Committee, now lead by Darin Altilio, will be contacting professional members to look for guidance and assistance in helping the chapter best meet the needs of our professional members. Please give Darin and his team your viewpoints, likes, challenges and advice. These efforts will help us all succeed.

And finally our Sponsorship Committee under the leadership of Stephanie Chippas and Jerry Gaschen will be beginning our 2010 campaign shortly. I hope all of our Associate Members and their respective firms give serious consideration to helping support our chapter. This support allows us to best serve all our members and offer low or no cost programs and events.

Become a 2010 – 2011 Sponsor today.

Thank you for all of your support and assistance.

Sincerely,

Christian Miller, President
